The River North Esk forms where the Water of Mark and the Water of Lee join, and it flows eastwards to reach the coast a few miles north of Montrose. At points, its course follows the boundary between Angus and Aberdeenshire. It has long been a popular area for fishing, and is also used by kayakers. The river passes through Glen Esk, a beautiful landscape comprising of woodland, moorland, cliffs, and even a Munro in the form of Mount Keen.
