Water of Leith, Edinburgh
Water of Leith, Edinburgh October
The Water of Leith runs through Edinburgh, from its source in the Pentland Hills to its end where it joins the Firth of Forth. The river is 24 miles long in total, with the Water of Leith Walkway following it along just over 12 miles of its length, between Balerno and Leith. The walk cuts through woodland, often along disused railway routes, and is a haven for wildlife. St Bernard’s Well, pictured here, was built in the late 1700s to cover the mineral spring which was purported to have healing properties.
